Frequently Asked Questions

How do I import a lab PDF?
Go to the Input tab, click PDF + OCR, and drop your lab report PDF. LabsLedger will extract biomarker values using Apple Vision OCR. Review the parsed results in the split-pane view, make any corrections, and click Save Session.
Which lab providers are supported?
You can import a PDF from any lab provider. We have optimized parsing for Quest Diagnostics, LabCorp, and Health Gorilla formats. OCR accuracy and completeness vary by lab format and PDF quality — the OCR may not capture every biomarker. Always review parsed results in the split-pane view and add any missing values. You can also use PDF + Manual mode to enter values while viewing the PDF.
How do I activate my license?
Open LabsLedger, go to Settings (gear icon), then License. Enter the license key from your purchase confirmation email and click Activate. Your license works on up to 2 Macs. Once activated, the app is yours to keep forever.
Where is my data stored?
All data is stored locally on your Mac in a sandboxed SQLite database. LabsLedger never transmits your health data anywhere. You can optionally back up your database using the built-in backup feature, which uses AES-256-GCM encryption.
How do I back up my data?
Go to Settings > Backup. You can create encrypted backups (AES-256-GCM) and restore from them at any time. We recommend backing up before major updates.
Can I export my data?
Yes! LabsLedger supports export in CSV, JSON, and Markdown formats. You can also generate Doctor Visit Reports and Doctor Reports as PDFs.
The OCR missed some biomarkers or got values wrong. What should I do?
This is expected — OCR accuracy and completeness vary by lab format and PDF quality. In the PDF Review screen, you can manually correct any incorrect values and add any biomarkers that were missed. The confidence score next to each value helps you identify which ones may need review. You can also switch to PDF + Manual mode to enter all values by hand while viewing the original PDF.
How do I track results for family members?
LabsLedger supports multiple users. Go to Settings > Users to add family members. Each user gets their own profile with separate biomarker data, sessions, and optional password protection.
